What is Micro-Needling and What are the Benefits?

Medspa Procedures

Micro-Needling has become well known in the beauty industry as one of the most effective anti-aging treatments currently available. However, as with any other aesthetic procedure, before you have it done, you should have a general understanding of this innovative treatment.

What is Micro-Needling?

You might also know Micro-needling as “Collagen Induction Therapy”, either way we are referring to a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatment that is performed with a group of sterile titanium micro-needles. These needles create small perforations in the upper layer of the skin, causing micro-injuries, followed by a healing response. This response creates new collagen and elastin. The result is firmer and tighter skin. You may also see a benefit with mild to moderate scarring, pore size, and even some stretch marks can also be improved.

 What’s the Secret to Micro-Needling?

The key to the treatment is stimulation of the skin. By forcing the skin to repair itself, there is a natural production of new tissue. In addition, Micro-Needling works very well to correct the damage caused by acne or chickenpox. It’s also very effective in reducing fine lines, discoloration and to achieve an overall rejuvenation of the skin.

Micro-Needling can also be used to create micro-channels in the skin to facilitate deeper absorption of topically applied products with active ingredients.

This synergy between the action of the needles and the solution used, produces a bio-stimulation that increases the effectiveness and maximizes the results of the treatment.

 What are its benefits?

  •  It is a very economical treatment, so it is perfect to eliminate wrinkles without having to invest a substantial amount of money.
  • It reduces scars caused by acne, wounds, burns, surgery, etc.

  • It promotes the production of collagen and elastin, so the patient will notice a more youthful appearance.

  • It addresses and improves the wrinkles on the face.

  • It’s effective to reduce unwanted pigmentation

  • It reduces stretch marks, leaving the skin more smooth and with less damage.

  • It leaves the skin hydrated and soft.

  • It reduces erythema, redness, enlarged pores, rosacea, spider veins, etc.

  • It can help reduce episodes of acne and seborrheic dermatitis.

How does this Procedure Work?

It’s very important to understand the guidelines associated with any beauty treatment you want to receive:

1. Micro-Needling commonly starts with applying a topical anesthetic cream to the patient’s skin. This is to avoid any discomfort caused my the needles.

2. Generally, the professional will apply a small amount of water to lubricate the skin.

3. The instrument used will then make small perforations in the patient’s skin with the micro-needles. The entire procedure typically lasts 30 minutes or less. The results aren’t immediate. However, you will notice that your skin will continuously improve as the synthesis of collagen is activated. Please be aware that, depending on the area to be treated and the desired outcome, 3 to 6 sessions might be necessary to achieve optimal results!

Micro-Needling is a technique that can be applied to many different areas of the face and body. On the scalp, it slows down and improves hair loss. On the face, neckline or hands, it can treat hyperpigmentation, lack of vitality in the skin and/or flaccidity and wrinkles.

Although the skin on the face is where it is most commonly applied, the procedure is equally safe and effective for other areas. Some of the other areas of the body it is commonly used for are:

  • Arms

  • Legs

  • Neck

  • Abdomen

  • Back

  • Hands

When performed on the body, Micro-Needling treats flaccidity and lack of turgor in the arms, abdomen, and legs. It also targets localized fat and cellulite on the abdomen, knees, and legs.

Besides being an effective anti-aging treatment, as well as correcting and reducing scars and skin blemishes, Micro-Needling has other uses. As we mentioned before, one of the most popular is the capillary revitalization and an effective method to treat alopecia. The small perforations caused by the needles help substances, such as topical growth factors, to penetrate into the scalp. Because of this, capillary growth is stimulated.

PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT try to do this treatment at home!

Many people are trying to perform this procedure at home with various products available to the public and on the internet.

However, doctors and dermatologists do NOT recommend this! As with any invasive treatment, as simple as it might seem, it must be performed by a professional in order to avoid numerous adverse outcomes.

For several years, Micro-Needling has been viewed as one of the most effective minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of aesthetic imperfections.
