A calf-and-ankle evaluation built around your anatomy

Fullness in the lower leg does not always come from the same source. Localized fat, muscle prominence, swelling, vascular concerns, lymphatic concerns, and skin quality can create different contours and may call for different medical or aesthetic decisions.

During evaluation, BodyLuxe compares a pinch with the calf relaxed and with the gastrocnemius contracted, such as while standing on the toes, to evaluate fat versus muscle prominence. This comparison is an evaluation aid, not a diagnostic or candidacy threshold.

When varicose veins or other vascular concerns are present, BodyLuxe may request vascular evaluation; whether treatment is indicated before cosmetic surgery depends on the clinical findings and the treating clinician’s recommendation. Candidacy and any need for clearance, referral, deferral, or declining cosmetic treatment are determined individually.

Sudden one-sided swelling—or pain/tenderness, warmth, redness, or discoloration in one leg—warrants prompt medical care. Difficulty breathing, chest pain, coughing blood, lightheadedness, or fainting requires immediate emergency care; call 911 or seek immediate emergency care. See the CDC’s blood-clot guidance.

For a broader explanation, read what cankles can mean and possible causes.

Awake, minimally invasive body contouring

Liposuction is surgery. BodyLuxe performs minimally invasive body contouring, including liposuction, using local anesthesia and minimal sedation.

BodyLuxe uses 2 mm access openings without scalpels and positions patients face up, face down, and on their sides during the procedure. These details do not establish a safety, pain, recovery, or outcome advantage.

Liposuction is surgery. Risks can include contour irregularity or asymmetry, persistent swelling, altered sensation, infection, poor healing or skin injury, blood clots, anesthesia or sedation complications, and possible revision. Local anesthesia and minimal sedation do not eliminate surgical or anesthetic risk. This page does not provide a complete risk list or replace a consultation with a qualified clinician.

Compression and walking after the procedure

BodyLuxe provides a compression garment extending from the feet to the upper thighs. Swelling is expected in the first week and may persist longer. Walking, compression duration, exercise, travel, and follow-up instructions are individualized.

Calf and ankle liposuction questions

Are the calves and ankles treated separately?

No. FormSculpt® Calf & Ankle covers both legs and treats the calves and ankles together as one aesthetic unit.

Is calf and ankle liposuction performed awake?

BodyLuxe performs this surgical liposuction using local anesthesia and minimal sedation. Local anesthesia and minimal sedation do not eliminate surgical or anesthetic risk.

Does liposuction treat every cause of cankles?

No. The appearance described as cankles can have different causes. An evaluation is needed to distinguish localized fat from muscle prominence, swelling, vascular or lymphatic concerns, and skin-quality issues.

What if I may have lipedema?

Suspected lipedema requires a separate qualified clinical evaluation. This cosmetic FormSculpt® Calf & Ankle service is not represented as lipedema-reduction surgery or a cure for lipedema.
